Wraithguard progress: Part 2

While I still have a bit of pace posting catch up pics from the last 9 months... part two of my Wraithguard set.

With the bodies attached to bases, all the bumps that will become gemstones are based with black templar. That includes some of the ribbing details too.

The runes in the middle of the chest are picked out with vallejo old gold.

At one point I was intending on doing some funky patterns on the heads, but I've kept these really basic - white, with black templar on the gubbins underneath. I'm not even sure if that part will be visible once they are glued on... so that's as far as the effort goes.

A fine recess wash with apothecary white (grey really) gives a little depth to the cloth, then the gemstones are outlined in old gold and blacked in.

I wanted to add some additional detail to the cloths that could be replicated on other models without too much effort - kind of made up on the fly, this started with a thin line of screamer pink.

I've then gone back around and added a random combination of curves, lines, dots, slashes to give a sense of Eldar style text. These don't hold up to close scrutiny but do the business at a moderate distance.

Since the white parts are the only areas that will have decals applied, it made sense to add these while the parts were still separate and easy to access. There are a couple of infinity circuit options on the decal sheet - I opted for the middle one, but snipping the lines off the edges.

Gloss varnish, then we're underway.

The infinity circuit decals look a little... er... like a pair of eyes at this scale.

So my meticulous numbering seems to have paid off - the cloths were easy to match up with the right body poses and once they have been superglued on I can forget about keeping track of them.

The heads are all universal/generic so they are just glued on from the pile - I've tried to mix in a bit of variety by posing some heads leaning a little left and right.

I pushed ahead to get the unit at least tabletop ready - the d-cannons are the classic loadout so I wanted to do these first, then I'll come back to the other options. Black templar is proving excellent for quickly building up the black on my Eldar. Weapon and cables blocked in quickly.

One of the funky little add ons I wanted to do with the wraithguard is colour code the 5 unique poses - for each set I have a combination of 3 gems coloured or uncoloured on the hip and shoulder. This might be 1st and 3rd on one of the matched sets... only 2nd on another. The aim is to make it easy to find a set of arms that lines up with each of the 5 poses that come in the box.

A final coat of dawnstone on the rim of the bases and these are ok to pack up into the cabinet.

While the wraithguard are effectively done - that still leaves me with about 75 arms that still need painting up to complete all the options.
